Open Records Archive

Have you already received open records that you want to share in our archive? Fill out our Archive-Record Sharing Form.

Thank you to Alabama Beer Company + Alabama Rivers Alliance’s DRIFT Fund for making our Open Records Archive possible!

Want to file an open records request but don’t know how? Or know how, but can’t pay the processing fee? Fill out our Open Records Archive- Request Form.

Please note: We are entirely volunteer-run by one law student. We are generally pretty on top of things. However, if a record is donated or requested around November 15-December 15 or April 15-May 15, it is highly likely you will not hear back from us until the end of December/May. We are not ghosting you! Just studying :)

Resources to Help You Run Your Own Open Records Requests

We are developing Open Records Requests Workshops! We are still working on perfecting our curriculum, so we are always open to feedback on how to improve this workshop. To see upcoming Open Records Requests Workshops, visit: our Get Involved page.

We’re also working on a spreadsheet to help streamline information about the method of request delivery for different agencies (ex: online portals, in-person forms, email, etc). We want to make this information easy to find in one place. This spreadsheet is not finished yet, but you can view what we currently have below.

If the agency or official you are requesting records from does not have a standard form or online portal, you can use this Open Records Request template for writing your request.

The Center for Constitutional Rights also has an Alabama Open Records Explainer. This is an amazing resource full of information and even more examples of how to write open records requests.
