About Us

Transparency Alabama is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our mission is to increase transparency in local and state government in Alabama.

We close the information gap between people and their government through community-oriented education and resource-sharing to empower citizens with the tools they need to hold their public officials accountable.

Our legal and policy research focuses on the scope and limits of governmental powers, the structures of government, campaign finance law and the political influence of corporate dependency, and government ethics law.

In other words: We research the kinds of actions government can (or cannot) take, the different parts of government, the jobs inside those different parts of government, the kinds of decisions leaders with those jobs can make, the influence major corporations have over politicians, and the laws designed to protect fair elections and public accountability.

Board of Directors

Our board is made up of passionate individuals who are dedicated to increasing transparency in Alabama’s local and state government. We believe strongly in Alabama and Alabamians, and we want to see our state thrive!

Meet the Board

Mandy Wong-Davis

Mandy is the Founder, Board President, and resident “Volunteer of Everything” of Transparency Alabama. Mandy received her degree in Geography (Earth System Science) and Philosophy from UA in 2022. Since graduating, Mandy has concurrently held various positions in policy research, programming, and community organizing with oranizations like the Greater-Birmingham Alliance to Stop Pollution and People’s Budget Birmingham. She is currently the Equity Chair of the Alabama Rivers Alliance YPRD. Mandy is passionate about education and youth empowerment. She is known widely as “Ms. Mandy” across Jefferson County and surrounding school districts from her adventures in substitute teaching.

In her spare time, she’s also a law student.
